In this article, we’ll show you how to add BSC network to your MetaMask wallet. If you have yet to read our primer on setting up MetaMask best to do that first. Click here.
When you enter MetaMask, the first thing you’ll see is that it’s an Ethereum wallet and it is connected to the Ethereum mainnet. This won’t work with the Binance Smart Chain DApps and you could potentially lose your funds by sending them to addresses that you can’t actually use so we need to connect our MetaMask wallet to the Binance Smart Chain nodes.
There are two ways to do it: One is automatic and the second is manual. First, we’ll show you the automatic way. So go to a dApp on Binance Smart Chain like PancakeSwap.
Connect your MetaMask wallet to that dApp:
It will ask for permission to add the BSC network to your wallet. Click “Approve” and then “Select network” and it will connect your MetaMask wallet to Binance Smart Chain network:
Head across to the circle icon in the top right and head down to “Settings”.
From here we need to go to “Networks” on the left-hand side of the screen:
Then select “Add network” at the top so this is where we can manually add the Binance Smart Chain as unfortunately, it doesn’t come with MetaMask now:
There are actually two networks that we can add:the Mainnet or the Testnet.
The Mainnet is the one that you’ll most likely need to add and the Testnet is essentially a test environment for the Binance Chain and is used for app developers to experiment with. Add the following details:
Network Name: Smart Chain
New RPC URL: https://bsc-dataseed.binance.org/
Block Explorer URL: https://bscscan.com
Network Name: Smart Chain – Testnet
New RPC URL: https://data-seed-prebsc-1-s1.binance.org:8545/
Block Explorer URL: https://testnet.bscscan.com
Once you’ve completed that, you can then click on the “Save” at the bottom of the screen.
Then once you’ve saved the network head back to the main view by clicking on the x icon. You’ll notice two things;:First the network is automatically set to the smart chain that we’ve just added. The units will no longer show ETH but BNB. If the Ethereum logo is showing below your account don’t worry as we’re now connected to the Binance Smart Chain Mainnet.
Congratulations, you have successfully added Binance Smart Chain network to your Metamask wallet!
